The Reason this DNC is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This move by the DNC to suppress the release of its internal autopsy report on the last presidential race appears remarkable but to be expected. Averse to hard truths, the DNC often functions more like a publicity machine than a political organization focused on building a volunteer base capable of prevailing at the polls.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Unwilling to break with the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has continued under the influence of the previous administration all through 2025. Publishing the findings would have indicated that the leadership actually want to promote public discourse about the missteps that enabled the former president to become president again. However, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there are no lessons to glean following the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If not, it’s a distraction from what truly matters," a rationale which was presented for withholding the report.

Key Issues an Autopsy Would Have Addressed

An autopsy report worth its salt would confront certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: The loss of a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the Democratic ticket during the previous election proved pivotal in the close 2024 election.
  • The Decision to Run: The unwavering insistence of a party leader to seek re-election, and a very late step-aside, is seen by some as denying the party's base the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Losing Touch With Everyday Americans: While facing economic anxiety, the electoral effort reportedly ceding to powerful financial backers and not managing to address the role of corporate greed.
  • A Gaza Factor: The failure to adjust a stance regarding a ongoing war is cited as losing significant blocs, particularly among young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • A Decline in Young Voter Support: Research indicates a huge decline in Democratic support from young voters.

A History of Evasion

The decision to withhold aligns with a longstanding habit of evading difficult realities. This mirrors a dynamic in which the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's insistence on seeking another term right up until a disastrous televised debate forced a reversal.

Concurrently, a significant majority of the electorate had been continually telling surveyors that they did not want the incumbent to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Questions

A substantive analysis would also investigate issues about financial allocations, such as the amounts flowed to party strategists as well as advertising contractors during a campaign that burned through a colossal war chest over a few months.

A Underlying Problem

At its core, the suppression regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a deference to party leaders who engineered a disastrous national race. The message for ordinary supporters – including countless small donors – is that they cannot have a right to see what the leadership have learned from a report drawing from extensive interviews.

A party incapable to critically review its own failings will struggle to climb out of the cycle that proved so helpful to the rival party.
