The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
